What’s happening to Lloyd Center?

According to Urban Renaissance Group [Lloyd Center’s managing partner] the intended closure date is TBD in 2026, at which time, all tenants will be given 90 days to relocate, so the entire mall can inevitably be demolished.

This is a very real, near-term possibility and imminent outcome if we as a community don’t use our voices to speak out against the tragic and wasteful loss of Lloyd Center.

Preserves the ice rink, a centrally located year-round public facility for all ages

Acknowledges the community utilizing & revitalizing mall culture

Central & accessible indoor space for everyone including the disabled, elderly, and especially youth

Golden opportunity to create more cultural attractions for Portland

Draws tourists, positive press, and promotes an affirming image of Portland

Provides a place of refuge during inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances

Demand exists for businesses wanting to become tenants. Let them!

    Lloyd Center is in the midst of a new identity. There's so much amazing and creative energy there. We're on the cusp of something like never before. I'd love to see this new transition of LC blossom to its full potential.

    Especially with climate change we need indoor spaces that are cultural attractions. Build on that. I’ve lived down the street my whole life-we need to revitalize, not tear down.

    Lloyd Center is historic, not just for Portland, but for the US. Please keep this space for us all to use, and to reinvent as times change. Portland does not need more mixed use apartments.

    Artists, creatives, and eccentrics built Portland's 21st century reputation, the one that put the city into the national consciousness and rocketed it up the lists of best places to live. People there see the seeds of something great and quintessentially Portland waiting to blossom with a little help from new tenants, artists, attention, and time.

    No matter the weather, number of attendees, volume of chatter, amount of money, or mode of transportation, the Lloyd Center is a central and accessible space to meet and build relationships which is exceedingly rare in this day and age.
